USPA NEWS - Vietnam Futsal team made the history by defeating champions Japan 2-1 on penalties in Wednesday´s AFC Futsal Championship quarter-final following a 4-4 draw after extra-time. It is the first time Vietnam Futsal has the ticket to participate in FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.

Japan took the lead two times in normal time and extra time, but they could not keep the final score. After 50 minutes, two teams drew 4-4 and thus went on for a showdown in the six-meter penalty.
After Morioka´s first penalty was ruled not to have crossed the line and with Kazuhiro Nibuya´s shot also saved by Nguyen Dinh Y Hoa, Phung Trong Luan´s penalty made history as Vietnam secured a place in the semi-finals of the AFC Futsal Championship for the first time as well as qualification to their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016, to be held in Colombia from September 10 to October 1.

According to FIFA, the top five teams of the ongoing AFC Futsal Championship will qualify for the Colombia tournament as the representatives of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Vietnam, together with Iran, Thailand and Uzbekistan ““ teams that made it to the semifinals ““ have secured a place in the World Cup, regardless of the final results.
